On June 26th, the Walt Disney Birthplace hosted two AMAZING events in the Chicago area, Creativity Days at the WDB and a Night of Magic With Dick Van Dyke. If you were able to make it to the events, THANK YOU. If you weren’t, no worries, we’ve got you covered. Photos and comments below. Our thanks to Shirley and Albert Schmidt for their donation of the CreativiTREE, to Schwinn for the donation of 4 bicycles and to the First in Flight Entertainment for their flawless event planning services. Schwinn is about to post a contest for those of you who weren’t at the event to win a Schwinn for yourself.
The Disney Birthplace is really starting to look amazing. Disney animators, Mike and Patty Peraza, were on hand to inspire the local kids with their amazing chalk drawing!

Thousands showed up to express their creativity.
There were lots of fun things to see and do:
Then we planted the CreativiTREE. The tree was festooned with hundreds of colorful ribbons, each one containing the hopes and dreams of an individual child. The tree is our commitment to encourage every child to reach for their dreams. Our guests of honor were song and dance legend Dick Van Dyke and his amazing wife Arlene, Shirley and Albert Schmidt who donated the CreativiTREE, and Dina Benadon and Brent Young who founded the Walt Disney Birthplace project.
And if all that wasn’t enough, we then headed to the historic Tivoli Theater in Downers Grove for a concert starring Dick Van Dyke in support of the Walt Disney Birthplace and the Dick Van Dyke Foundation.
The theatre has a working Mighty Whurlitzer pipe organ. We auctioned off two original works of art from artists Shane Grammer and Josh Jansky.
The Mayor of Downers Grove and his lovely wife attended the celebration. Arlene Van Dyke interviewed her husband on stage to the delight of the crowd.
We are deeply thankful to all the wonderful folks who assisted us with this event, the mayor, the Rotary, Scott Curran, the Tivoli, over 30 volunteers and the WDB staff. We’ll be announcing more amazing events soon. If you aren’t on our mailing list, add your name to THIS LINK now so you don’t miss out!
